Komenda is a picturesque rural destination in the heart of Slovenia, close to Ljubljana, Kamnik and Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport.

The municipality comprises fifteen settlements which, despite rapid development, have retained their distinctive rural character, welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of local community. Its identity is shaped by a rich history, the historic centre with the Church of St Peter and Jože Plečnik’s design of the village square, as well as the legacy of Peter Pavel Glavar, a priest, scholar, beekeeper and benefactor.

Komenda’s story is also closely linked to beekeeping, pottery, horse breeding and agriculture. Today, the area brings together cultural heritage, nature, a vibrant community life, events and sport. As the hometown of cyclist Tadej Pogačar, Komenda also has a strong connection to cycling, and his outstanding achievements have become an important source of contemporary pride and recognition for the area.

Visitors can stroll through the historic centre, visit the Glavar Benefice House and the Pottery Museum by prior arrangement, experience the atmosphere of the Komenda Hippodrome, or explore the surrounding fields, forests and villages.
